Say A Daily Prayer
I am asking my fellow citizens to put time aside every day to pray for our country. However, let us not be so ignorant as to pray for party or pride, lest we pray against each other. Rather, let us, together as one voice, remember what God has done for us since He formed the foundations of the world, and acknowledge His hand in the creation of the greatest country known to mankind, the United States of America. Let us then ask for forgiveness and promise to acknowledge Him in all our ways and return Him as the foundation of our country.
During the Revolution, Congress held daily prayers to ask for God’s help in winning the war, which they were victorious. While our founders were working on the Constitution, their efforts were failing and they thought they would never reach a consensus. It was then that Benjamin Franklin rose from his seat and gave a speech that touched the heart of everyone who heard it or has since read these words:
In this situation of this Assembly, groping as it were in the dark to find political truth, and scarce able to distinguish it when presented to us, how has it happened, Sir, that we have not hitherto once thought of humbly applying to the Father of lights to illuminate our understandings? In the beginning of the Contest with G. Britain, when we were sensible of danger we had daily prayer in this room for the divine protection. Our prayers, Sir, were heard, & they were graciously answered. All of us who were engaged in the struggle must have observed frequent instances of a superintending providence in our favor.
To that kind providence we owe this happy opportunity of consulting in peace on the means of establishing our future national felicity. And have we now forgotten that powerful friend? or do we imagine that we no longer need his assistance? I have lived, Sir, a long time, and the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth - that God Governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without his notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without his aid?
We have been assured, Sir, in the sacred writings, that ‘except the Lord build the House they labour in vain that build it.’ I firmly believe this; and I also believe that without his concurring aid we shall succeed in this political building no better, than the Builders of Babel: We shall be divided by our little partial local interests; our projects will be confounded, and we ourselves shall become a reproach and bye word down to future ages. And what is worse, mankind may hereafter from this unfortunate instance, despair of establishing Governments by Human wisdom and leave it to chance, war and conquest.
I therefore beg leave to move - that henceforth prayers imploring the assistance of Heaven, and its blessings on our deliberations, be held in this Assembly every morning before we proceed to business, and that one or more of the Clergy of this City be requested to officiate in that Service.
As a result, Congress took the time to say daily prayers and the Constitution and Bill of Rights were subsequently realized. We have thousands of pages of historical documents with reference to America’s reliance on God. Since our founding, we have allowed God to be removed from the public square and we continually deny His hand in the founding and protection of our nation and His authority over our country.
I encourage everyone to read Deuteronomy, Chapter 28, which explains the blessings a country will receive who has God has its foundation and the curses it will realize, if that foundation is removed.
Samuel was the last judge over Israel and in his final days as judge, he spoke the following words to God’s people, which are as appropriate today, as they were then. These verses can be found in King James Bible, Samuel Chapter 12: 20-22
Fear not: ye have done all this wickedness: yet turn not aside from following the Lord, but serve the Lord with all your heart;
And turn ye not aside: for then should ye go after vain things, which cannot profit nor deliver; for they are vain.
For the Lord will not forsake his people for his great name's sake: because it hath pleased the Lord to make you his people.”
God’s mercy and forgiveness are well documented throughout the Bible. In 2 Chronicles 7:14 God says:
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
Samuel and 2 Chronicles, as well as many other chapters and verses throughout the Bible, offer hope and redemption to people who recognize Christ and follow His teachings. Together, if we call out to God each day, with one voice, He will hear us from heaven, forgive us and heal our land as He promised.
Very few people will deny that our country is in deep trouble, something that most of our founders warned about and President Ronald Regan spoke directly on, saying:
Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn't pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children's children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.
A quote often attributed to President Abraham Lincoln but refuted by others,
America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.
However, it does not matter who is responsible for this quote; the quote is real and has been memorialized forever. The quote is accurate and truthful.
The Bible is full of examples how God’s people were sold into bondage by their own hand. Let us not fall victim to our own undoing but call out to God, remember all the great things He has done for our country and its citizens, ask for His forgiveness and promise to return Him as the foundation of our country. If we do all of this, just like He acted during our founding, He will act and deliver us and heal our country.
My hope is that as more and more American citizens encourage their family, friends and colleagues to pray for our country, members of Congress, both houses, and others throughout our government, will follow. Pray for our leaders, not that they are successful in what they want to accomplish, rather, that God directs their path and they accomplish what God wants.

We need to reverse all of this and the only way to accomplish that task is through prayer and education.
